A five-year-old tigress was found in a critically injured condition at the Pilibhit Tiger Reserve early on Saturday morning, forest officials said.
The tigress was discovered by forest staff during their regular morning patrol. Shortly after the sighting, a rescue team reached the location and immediately began treatment under the supervision of veterinary doctors, officials confirmed.
Manish Singh, Deputy Director and Divisional Forest Officer of Pilibhit Tiger Reserve, told PTI that a five-member special monitoring team has been formed to provide continuous care for the tigress. The team is closely observing her health and movements round the clock.
Singh further stated that the tigress is receiving treatment from a team of specialist veterinarians headed by Dr Daksh Gangwar.
According to Dr Gangwar, a large number of insects had infested a wound on the tigress’s right ear. The insects have since been removed as part of the ongoing medical treatment.
He said the tigress was in a critical condition when she was found in the morning, but her health has now stabilised.
Dr Gangwar added that the injured tigress is currently not fit to be shifted to another facility for treatment. She is being given intravenous fluids to support her recovery.
“There has been some improvement in the swelling, but she is not yet in a condition to eat anything. Constant contact is being maintained with veterinarians from the Kanpur Zoo and the Indian Veterinary Research Institute in Bareilly,” Gangwar said.
